flickr backup

Meer flickr: ik ben op zoek naar een tool om mijn foto’s van mijn flickr te kunnen downloaden (zonder daarvoor elke foto afzonderlijk te moeten openen en downloaden).

In mijn speurtocht ben ik al terecht gekomen bij PictureSync (voor mac), en FlickrDown (voor win, maar je moet er wel Microsoft .NET 2.0 beta 2 voor installeren).

Maar dan vond ik deze thread in flickr forums: flickr is considering selling DVD’s of your photos, waarin dit verder door flickr staff wordt toegelicht:

Definitely both by downloading and by CD/DVD, probably first by download. Since large collections can be a major hit – not just in terms of bandwidth, but also in database/CPU for gathering all the data/images and zipping them up – we may limit the number of times people can download a full backup in a given period of time. If we did this, you could pay a nominal fee ($1?) for additional downloads.

Maar dat antwoord is van zowat een jaar geleden –geen nieuws sindsdien. Er zijn twee andere threads waarin over hetzelfde wordt gesproken (Batch Download en Batch download (again)), maar ook daar wordt evenmin een termijn voorop gesteld. De meest recente reply dateert waarschijnlijk van drie maand geleden, in de thread Batch Download of Sets / Entire Photostream, waarin Eric Costello (glish) antwoordt:

It’s still not done 🙁 We have made some implementation plans, but our time has been consumed with other things, sadly. We still fully recognize the need for this feature, and plan to do it! I wish I could give you an ETA.
