Ze is geen klassieke schoonheid, Patti Smith, maar ze behoort wel tot het groepje vrouwen die in een kader aan mijn muur mogen hangen –en dan bij voorkeur met een foto die ik heb gemaakt. (Jane Birkin behoort overigens ook tot dat groepje.)
Smith heeft nooit echt commercieel succes gekend —Because the night is waarschijnlijk haar bekendste en meest gecoverde nummer– maar haar invloed op de muziekscène is des te groter. In 1978 herschrijft Patti Smith het origineel van Bruce Springsteen (dat hij zelf nooit zou releasen), als beide muzikanten in belendende studio’s een plaat opnemen.

ik denk dat ik gisteren haar “everybody wants to rule the world” van tears for fears gehoor dhb op de radio: barslacht op het randje van vals maar dat is mss haar stemtimbre, het is een artsmoeilijk lied als je geen typische mannen-eightiesstemgeluid hebt…bwaark zeg
Eén van mijn all time favorites!! Bedankt om mijn dag met een schoon liedeken te laten beginnen.
Prachtige liedje. Deze versie is ook veel doorleefder dan die van 10.000 maniacs.
