They take a photo and posts it in the Twitter. On the next morning, everybody is laughing at Alice but the chief editor and her boss Vincent Khan loves the idea that Alice is dating someone twenty years younger. Alice decides to impersonate that she is in love with Balthazar to get a promotion in the magazine. But soon she learns that she should not trifle with love.

The gang’s plans start to go awry when the tunnel is flooded by heavy rain, leaving them with no escape, plus to discover that the box really doesn’t contains documents, but an external hard drive full of data about important names in all levels of the Spanish politic. At the same time, a fixer of the government receives the mission to assume the control of the negotiations, looking for recover at any cost the box 314 and the information before the robbers flee with it.

Hij strikte Harrison Ford als Jack Ryan –ter vervanging van Alec Baldwin– in de twee vervolgfilms op John McTiernans The Hunt for Red October (gebaseerd op de gelijknamige boeken van Tom Clancy).

    Verrassing van de maand, met zeer mooie prestaties voor Jennifer Lawrence en Bradley Cooper –zelfs Robert De Niro viel een beetje mee.

    Veel beter dan de score op IMDB liet uitschijnen. Vooral de fotografie is opmerkelijk goed, en er zit ook geen preuts gezever tussen. De synopsis is echter weinig relevant –dit ding is een slasher, vol bijeengesprokkelde clichés, maar zo onderhoudend!

    Er was echt geen nood aan deze bijzonder karikaturale portrettering van Philippe Petit. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is een goed acteur, maar dat Frans accent was echt niet nodig. Bekijk alstublieft gewoon Man on Wire.

Goed begonnen is half gewonnen, en bij deze zitten we perfect op schema van één film per dag. Niet dat het allemaal kwaliteit was, maar er zitten toch een paar pareltjes tussen.

1. The Lobster / Yorgos Lanthimos / 2015 / ***(*)
   In a dystopian near future, single people, according to the laws of The City, are taken to The Hotel, where they are obliged to find a romantic partner in forty-five days or are transformed into beasts and sent off into The Woods.
   Er zijn zo van die films waar ge godverdomme bij zegt. Er zijn zo van die regisseurs waar ge godverdomme bij zegt. Die laatste categorie is veel zeldzamer; ik had dat reeds bij Denis Villeneuve, Tessa heeft dat bij Wes Anderson (en ik kan haar daar best bij volgen). Yorgos Lanthimos is sterk op weg om er ook zo één te worden. The Lobster is een fantastisch bevreemdende film (alienating heeft dat in het Engels), met een paar fanastische acteurs, zoals Colin Farrell, in wat ongetwijfeld de beste rol van zijn carrière is, en een briljante Rachel Weisz, en ook nog Léa Seydoux en Angeliki Papoulia, die eerder al in Lanthimos’ Kynodontas en Alps meespeelde.
2. Disturbia / D.J. Caruso / 2007 / ***(*)
   A teen living under house arrest becomes convinced his neighbour is a serial killer.
   Geen van de acteurs die in deze film meespelen, en al evenmin de regisseur, is onthoudenswaardig op zich. Maar D.J. Caruso weet met deze moderne herinterpretatie van Rear Window het beste uit alles en iedereen te halen –inclusief zichzelf en de irritante David Morse. Absoluut (nog steeds) bekijkenswaardig.
3. Burnt / John Wells / 2015 / ***
   Adam Jones is a chef who destroyed his career with drugs and diva behavior. He cleans up and returns to London, determined to redeem himself by spearheading a top restaurant that can gain three Michelin stars.
   Toegegeven, het zal niet voor de originaliteit zijn, dat u naar deze film kijkt. De romance tussen en het achtergrondverhaal van Adam Jones (Bradley Cooper) en Helene (Sienna Miller), zorgen echter voor een mooi verhaal, dat best wel kan boeien. Haal uw beste pannen boven.
4. The Diary of a Teenage Girl / Marielle Heller / 2015 / ***(*)
   A teen artist living in 1970s San Francisco enters into an affair with her mother’s boyfriend.
   Ik ging er niks over schrijven of zeggen tot ik ook het stripverhaal had gelezen, maar door omstandigheden, ben ik er nog niet geraakt. Deze film is dus zeer de moeite waard, en biedt een organische synthese tussen de afgemeten aangewende special effects (lees: de integratie van animatie in deze eigenlijk geheel ‘normaal gefilmde’ film) en de personages. Kristen Wiig speelt zoals steeds voortreffelijk, net zoals Alexander Skarsgård; maar de grote punten zijn weggelegd voor Bel Powley, die op fenomenale wijze het lelijke eendje Minnie vertolkt. (Dat Powley datzelfde jaar ook princes Margaret vertolkte in het verder totaal vergetenswaardige A Royal Night Out, zullen we graag vergeten.) Dat The Diary of a Teenage Girl het debuut van regisseur Marielle Heller is, duwt haar meteen hoog op het lijstje in de gaten te houden filmmensen.
5. Extraction / Steven C. Miller /2015 / (*)
   A former CIA operative is kidnapped by a group of terrorists. When his son learns there is no plan for his father to be saved, he launches his own rescue operation.
   Bruce Willis had dringend kleingeld nodig, denk ik. Regisseur Steven C. Miller is dezelfde onverlaat die eerder in 2015 ook al het vreselijke Submerged op ons losliet.
6. Solace / Afonso Poyart / 2015 / *(*)
   A psychic works with the FBI in order to hunt down a serial killer.
7. Diablo / Lawrence Roeck / 2015 / *(*)
   A young civil war veteran is forced on a desperate journey to save his kidnapped wife.
8. Ashby / Tony McNamara / 2015 / **
   High-school student Ed Wallis enters into a friendship with his neighbor, Ashby, a retired CIA assassin who only has a few months left to live.
9. The Wave / Roar Uthaug / 2015 / **
   Even though awaited, no-one is really ready when the mountain pass of Åkneset above the scenic narrow Norwegian fjord Geiranger falls out and creates a 85 meter high violent tsunami. A geologist is one of those caught in the middle of it.
10. 45 Years / Andrew Haigh / 2015 / 0
    A married couple preparing to celebrate their wedding anniversary receive shattering news that promises to forever change the course of their lives.
    Ha! Welkom, beste salonintellectueel. Dit is uw film. Voor de rest: run, don’t walk. Er gebeurt niets in deze film. En het verhaal zit bijzonder slecht in elkaar. De film gaat over de teloorgang van het huwelijk tussen Kate en Geoff Mercer, in een vruchteloze poging van regisseur Andfew Haigh om een Ingmar Bergman epigoon te worden.Er is van bij het begin niets tussen hoofpersonnages Kate en Geoff: geen spanning, geen passie, geen samenhang, geen afstoting. Er is enkel totale apathie, en in dat vacuum mag u de ganse film doorbrengen. Doe uzelf een plezier, en besteed uw tijd gewoon anders.
11. Antigang / Benjamin Rocher / 2015 / **(*)
    A french police unit that try to stop a group of criminals.
    Antigang laat zich op IMDB vertalen naar The Squad –dat doet mij dan weer denken aan het nochtans niet meteen memorabele The Mod Squad met Claire Danes, beroemd geworden met Romeo + Juliet aan de zijde van Leonardo DiCaprio, en die zich momenteel een beetje laat uitmelken in Homeland, dat nochtans ijzersterk was begonnen, maar nu een beetje een slechte Europese serie aan het verworden is (denk een mix tussen Transporter The series en Covert Affairs). Edoch: Antigang. Was het effectief een Amerikaanse film geweest, met ditto cast, dan had hij in alle boekskes gestaan. Zoals het nu is, is de film amper bekend. En terwijl het niet meteen een hoogvlieger is, biedt dit anderhalf uurtje pellicule u duizend keer meer vertier dan bovenstaande 45 Years. Benjamin Rocher is de regisseur van het ‘vermakelijke’ La horde.

    Niet echt slecht, maar niet meteen memorabel: plezant om te bekijken met het verstand op nul, en om dan meteen weer te vergeten.

    Dat zit niet slecht in elkaar, een beetje gelijk de betere Vlaamse crimi. Onderhoudend.

    Slaapverwekkend.
21. 99 Homes / Ramin Bahrani / 2014 / **
    A recently unemployed single father struggles to get back his foreclosed home by working for the real estate broker who is the source of his frustration.
    Mensen genoeg, die dit goed gaan vinden. Voor mij is het iets té veel geëngageerd (typerend voor regisseur Ramin Bahrani), en iets te weinig verhaal/actie. Wel goed geacteerd, met bonuspunten voor de onderschatte Michael Shannon.
22. Schone Handen / Tjebbo Penning / 2015 / **
    Sylvia en haar man Eddie leiden een luxeleventje in Amsterdam Oud-Zuid met hun twee kinderen. Wat de bron van die luxe is, heeft Sylvia verdrongen. Want Eddie houdt zijn bloeiende drugshandel buiten de deur. Een brutale politie-inval en vernederende huiszoeking schudden Sylvia wakker. Wanneer alles fout dreigt te lopen probeert Sylvia haar jonge kinderen te beschermen en het misdaadmilieu te ontvluchten. Maar zo gemakkelijk gaat dat niet, want ze beseft dat Eddie haar niet zomaar zal laten gaan. Ze weet immers te veel.
    Tjebbo Penning verfilmde deze gelijknamige roman van misdaadauteur René Appel, met Thekla Reuten in de hoofdrol. Goed geacteerde genrefilm.

    Te vermijden.

    Nodeloze moeilijkdoenerij. Waar is de regisseur van Tesis, Abre los ojos en The Others?
25. The Circle / Levan Akin / 2015 / **
    An otherworldly evil is slipping into a small town in Sweden. Six unrelated girls have been chosen to fight this evil. Together they must overcome their differences in order to save themselves and the world.
    Beetje bij het haar getrokken, en tegelijk al elders gezien verhaal van zes schoolmeisjes die de wereld moeten redden. Eerste deel van een trilogie –ik ben benieuwd naar de rest.
26. Youth / Paolo Sorrentino / 2015 / *(*)
    A retired orchestra conductor is on holiday with his daughter and his film director best friend in the Alps when he receives an invitation from Queen Elizabeth II to perform for Prince Philip’s birthday.
    Hier is hij dan, de meest overroepen film van 2015. De fotografie is zowat de slechtste die ik in lange tijd heb gezien in een film: karakterloos, met vaak veel te hard licht, en zonder de minste nuance. De pointe van het verhaal is de moeite, maar het verhaal zelf niet. Ik probeer binnenkort La grande bellezza eens te bekijken, maar anders blijft Sorrentino steken bij zijn magnum opus Le conseguenze dell’amore uit 2004.
27. Our Brand Is Crisis / David Gordon Green / 2015 / **
    A battle-hardened American political consultant is sent to help re-elect a controversial president in Bolivia, where she must compete with a long-term rival working for another candidate.
    Als origineel valt dit verhaal bezwaarlijk te omschrijven, maar de acteurs hebben hun best gedaan, en de regisseur levert een onderhoudende film af. Geen blijver.
28. Ne le dis à personne / Guillaume Canet / 2006 / ****
    Alex (François Cluzet) et Margot (Marie-Josée Croze) forment un couple heureux et épanoui : ils se connaissent depuis l’enfance. Tous les ans, ils gravent d’un trait l’arbre sous lequel ils se sont embrassés pour la première fois. Leur vie bascule cependant le jour où Margot est enlevée et sauvagement assassinée par un serial killer. Son père, Jacques Laurentin (André Dussolier), officier de police, reconnaît formellement le corps abîmé de sa fille. Totalement détruit, Alex ressasse jour après jour le souvenir bouleversant de son amour perdu. Il se réfugie à corps perdu dans le travail. Huit ans plus tard, le jour anniversaire de leur premier baiser, Alex reçoit un e-mail anonyme. Il clique : une image… le visage d’une femme au milieu d’une foule, filmé en temps réel. Celui de Margot…
29. 88 / April Mullen / 2015 / **(*)
    A young woman comes to in a roadside diner with no idea where she is or how she got there. Split between two timelines, she gets taken on a violent journey as she seeks out the person responsible for her lover’s death.
    Alweer niet echt een origineel idee, maar wel redelijk goed uitgewerkt. Actrice Katharine Isabelle draagt deze film schijnbaar moeiteloos, en geeft de kijker amper de kans om naar adem te snakken. Zeker niet slecht.
30. 2001: A Space Odyssey / Stanley Kubrick / 1968 / *****
    Humanity finds a mysterious, obviously artificial object buried beneath the Lunar surface and, with the intelligent computer H.A.L. 9000, sets off on a quest.
    Ik weet het, ik geef maar maximaal vier sterren. Deze 2001: A Space Odyssey van Stanley Kubrick, naar een verhaal dat hij zelf schreef met Arthur C. Clarke, is een meesterwerk zonder gelijke. Bijna een halve eeuw na datum is deze film nog niets verouderd, zelfs niet de afgebeelde technologie. Frame na frame mag ingelijst worden, in een verhaal dat zijn tijd neemt, zonder ooit saai te worden. Moet u absoluut gezien hebben!
31. 2010: The Year We Make Contact / Peter Hyams / 1984 / ***
    A joint U.S.-Soviet expedition is sent to Jupiter to learn what happened to the Discovery.
    Het vervolg op 2001, is veel minder klassiek dan de voorganger. De technologie –waarvan dat we in 1984 ongetwijfeld vonden dat we gigantische vooruitgang hadden geboekt (let ook op de dolfijnen)– toont zich helemaal verouderd, en in deze film krijgen we veel minder overzichtsshots, die worden ingeruild voor een ietsje meer actie. Nog steeds de moeite van het bekijken waard, dat wel.

We beginnen het nieuwe jaar in de eerste volle week (en ik antidateer een beetje want ik vervolledig dit pas op 6.01).

Edoch. In 2013 zag ik 107 films, en in 2014 verdubbelde dat bijna tot 212. Voor 2015 klokt de teller af op 230. Dat is er niet eens eentje per dag, dus dat kan altijd beter.

Ook tijdens deze laatste maand hebben we nog wat aanraders gezien, naast het vanzelfsprekende Star Wars: The Force Awakens en The Martian, zijn er ook American Ultra, Sicario, Irrational Man, en vooral La dame dans l’auto avec des lunettes et un fusil die uw aandacht verdienen.

213. Rendez-Vous / Antoinette Beumer / 2015 / **
     In Rendez-vous gooit Simone (Loes Haverkort) het roer om. Ze erft een bouwvallig landhuis in Frankrijk en vertrekt om samen met haar man Eric (Mark van Eeuwen) en hun twee kinderen, daarvan een chambre d’hôtes te maken. Terwijl de hectiek van de verbouwing steeds groter wordt, vlucht Simone in een spannende affaire met één van de Franse bouwvakkers, de aantrekkelijke Michel (Pierre Boulanger). Eric gaat intussen helemaal op in de bouwplannen van aannemer Peter (Peter Paul Muller), maar niet alles in dat prachtige Frankrijk is wat het lijkt… De Franse droom ontaardt in een regelrechte nachtmerrie.
     Och, als stationsromannetje kan dat wel tellen. Het blijft geheel ongeloofwaardig, en het doet een beetje denken aan een opgewaardeerde soft-porno film uit de jaren 80 –maar dan zonder de soft-porno. Regisseur Antoinette Beumer was eerder al verantwoordelijk voor de verfilming van Heleen van Royens De gelukkige huisvrouw en voor de Nederlandse versie van Loft.
214. American Ultra / Nima Nourizadeh / 2015 / ***
     A stoner – who is in fact a government agent – is marked as a liability and targeted for extermination. But he’s too well-trained and too high for them to handle.
     Hola! Wat voor f-cking ondergewaardeerde film is dit. Jesse Eisenberg en de bijwijlen hardnekkig naar opwaardering zoekende Kristen Stewart (cfr Clouds of Sils Maria), vertolken een hilarisch duo in deze hilarische actiekomedie. Gaat dat zien, als ge even tijd hebt.
215. Applesauce / Onur Tukel / 2015 / **(*)
     Two married couples become increasingly agitated with each other as they find out things about each other’s past, while one of them is receiving disturbing packages from an unknown source.
     De film komt zeer amateuristisch over (zoals: gelijk gemaakt zonder budget), maar Max Casella vertolkt een buitengewone antiheld Les in een verhaal waar alles lijkt mis te lopen.
216. Ventoux / Nicole van Kilsdonk / 2015 / *(*)
     Vier mannen, vrienden van weleer, beklimmen op hun racefiets de Mont Ventoux, zoals ze dat 30 jaar geleden ook deden. En ze doen wat mannen zo goed kunnen: loodzware ernst en slap ouwehoeren moeiteloos afwisselen. Totdat hun jeugdvriendin, de prachtige Laura zich meldt en de ‘spoken’ uit het verleden zich aandienen. In een hedendaagse en herkenbare mix van hilariteit en weemoed overwint de vriendschap, die juist door dat verleden een vriendschap voor het leven blijkt.
     Tsja. Het boek was beter. De film toont maar weinig creativiteit (tot een mislukte halfslachtige referentie aan de rode bikini van Phoebe Cates in Fast Times at Ridgemont High).
217. Blood Redd / Brad Palmer / 2015 / *
     Mortimer Clark, a forensic pathologist finds himself autopsying yet another teenage girl’s body ravaged and torn by a large canine. The girls all have been slain on the full moon. A werewolf though? That’s ridiculous.Lauren Redd, a sixteen year old girl is being forced to spend the weekend with her grandmother. Here she steps into an elaborate trap laid out by a manipulative killer. But when Lauren’s finally cornered, the tables turn and the prey becomes the predator. The Redd family will go to any length to hide the family secret and protect their daughter but Mortimer is following a trail that will ultimately lead to the truth.
     Een halfslachtige herinterpretatie van Roodkapje, maar de film laat alle kansen liggen.
218. Crimson Peak / Guillermo del Toro / 2015 / **(*)
     In the aftermath of a family tragedy, an aspiring author is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider. Trying to escape the ghosts of her past, she is swept away to a house that breathes, bleeds – and remembers.
     De fantastische fotografie maakt van deze film een pareltje. Het verhaal is maar zo-zo, maar del Toro weet alles zo in beeld te brengen, dat de kijker in het verhaal wordt meegezogen.
219. One Eyed Girl / Nick Matthews / 2014 / *(*)
     Travis is a thirty-something psychiatrist haunted by the death of a former patient. On the brink of a nervous breakdown, he stumbles across a group run by a charismatic leader, Father Jay. In search of answers, Travis is led deeper and deeper into the underworld of a doomsday cult where he meets Grace, a mysterious teenage girl. When the cult comes under attack from the outside world, Travis must risk his life to free a girl, and save his soul.
     Goede poging?
220. Star Wars: The Force Awakens / J.J. Abrams / 2015 / ***
     Three decades after the defeat of the Galactic Empire, a new threat arises. The First Order attempts to rule the galaxy and only a ragtag group of heroes can stop them, along with the help of the Resistance.
     Ja, ik heb hem gezien. Ja, ik vond hem goed. Niet echt origineel, maar wel goed.
221. Paul à Québec / François Bouvier / 2015 / **(*)
     En 1999, Paul et sa conjointe Julie vivent de beaux moments avec leur jeune fille. Ils se cherchent une maison à Montréal et voient fréquemment leur famille, notamment les parents de Julie qui habitent St-Nicolas, en banlieue de Québec. Mais la maladie a frappé durement Roland, le fier et généreux patriarche de la famille, qui tente tant bien que mal de cacher l’ultimatum qu’il subit à ses enfants. Mais la vie étant ce quelle est, Roland devra être admis dans un centre de soins palliatifs alors que ses proches, dont Paul, devront apprivoiser l’idée de sa mort. Dans le processus, Paul se mettra au dessin.
     Ik ben een grote fan van de stripverhalen van Michel Rabagliati, en deze film kwam als een aangename verrassing.
222. The Visit / M. Night Shyamalan / 2015 / *(*)
     Two siblings become incredibly frightened by their grandparents disturbing behavior, while visiting them on vacation.
     Maar M. Night Shyamalan. Wat hebt ge nu gedaan? Zo’n schone premisse, en dan verknoeit ge dat helemaal, grotendeels door die f-cking handycam met dat onstabiel beeld, dat al niet meer hip was na The Blair Witch Project. Ik ben een groot fan van uw films, tot en met The Happening, maar dan stopt het helaas.
223. Sicario / Denis Villeneuve / 2015 / ***(*)
     An idealistic FBI agent is enlisted by a government task force to aid in the escalating war against drugs at the border area between the U.S. and Mexico.
     Ziet, ik ben een nog groter fan van Denis Villeneuve, enfin, toch van de drie films –deze inbegrepen– die ik van hem al heb gezien. Sicario is een understated film, vol ongetoond geweld, dat veel beklemmender is dan de gemiddelde actiefilm.

     Oei! Zo verouderd dat die film is jong. Ik krijg dan eindelijk de huisgenoten mee om eens naar een horror film te kijken, en dan schotel ik ze dit voor. Ik zal de volgende keer zorgvuldiger moeten selecteren. Ik wou niet met The Shining beginnen, maar misschien had ik dat beter wel gedaan. Grmbl.

     A climbing expedition on Mt. Everest is devastated by a severe snow storm.
     Het was schoon gemaakt, en onderhoudend en zo, maar ik had voortdurend het gevoel dat ik deze film al een keer of tien had gezien.
226. The Martian / Ridley Scott / 2015 / ***
     During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive.
     Het optimisme van Mark Watney (gespeeld door Matt Damon), draagt een groot deel van deze film. Ja, de film wijkt wat af van het boek, maar het is nu eenmaal niet echt boeiend genoeg om naar ellenlange probeersels van Watney te zitten kijken –wat in het boek wel werkt. Goed verfilmd. Met Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig én Kate Mara.
227. A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night / Ana Lily Amirpour / 2014 / **(*)
     In the Iranian ghost-town Bad City, a place that reeks of death and loneliness, the townspeople are unaware they are being stalked by a lonesome vampire.
     Het is apart, het is redelijk arty, vol weltschmerz, maar dit langspeelfilm debuut van Amirpour is zeker de moeite van het bekijken waard.
228. La dame dans l’auto avec des lunettes et un fusil / Joann Sfar / 2015 / ***(*)
     Elle est la plus rousse, la plus myope, la plus sentimentale, la plus menteuse, la plus vraie, la plus déroutante, la plus obstinée, la plus inquiétante des héroïnes. La dame dans l’auto n’a jamais vu la mer, elle fuit la police et se répète sans cesse qu’elle n’est pas folle… Pourtant…
     Steengoede film van stripauteur Joann Sfar, die eerder al Gainsbourg (Vie héroïque) en zijn eigen Le chat du rabbin verfilmde. Freya Mavor (van o.a. The White Queen) speelt een voortreffelijke en geloofwaardige Dany Dorémus, in deze film, die de sfeer van de klassieke Franse cinema uitademt. Het verhaal is gebaseerd op een boek van Sébastien Japrisot, die u kent van Un long dimanche de fiançailles met Audrey Tautou, maar hopelijk ook van het al even heerlijke Trap for Cinderella. Absolute aanrader!
229. Pawn Sacrifice / Edward Zwick / 2014 / **
     Set during the Cold War, American chess prodigy Bobby Fischer finds himself caught between two superpowers and his own struggles as he challenges the Soviet Empire.
     Tobey Maguire zet een mooie, excentrieke Bobby Fischer neer. Geheel terzijde, maar Edward Zwick is de mens die in 1986 About Last Night… op u losliet, de romantische komedie met Rob Lowe, Demi Moore en James Belushi.
230. Irrational Man / Woody Allen / 2015 / ***
     A tormented philosophy professor finds a will to live when he commits an existential act.
     Ik ben niet zo’n fan van de films van Woody Allen, waar hij zelf in meespeelt. Die films zijn veel te inwisselbaar, en draaien te veel rond zijn typetje –ik heb liever dat hij zijn neuroses door iemand anders laat vertolken, zoals hier, door Joaquin Phoenix (Abe) en Emma Stone (f-cking irritante Jill). Het verhaal heeft eigenlijk niet zo veel om het lijf, maar het is wel schitterend gebracht. Ik was er helemaal voor gewonnen. Ja, zelfs voor het enorm houterige, voorspelbare, en kunstmatig overkomende einde.

November was een lastige maand. Ik zweefde van de ene migraine naar de andere, en eigenlijk loop ik constant met een aanhoudende hoofdpijn. Ik steek het op het rotweer –het wil maar niet koud worden, al heb ondertussen ook wel griep gekregen. Er was geen tijd (goesting/mogelijkheid) om de films dagelijks bij te houden, maar hierbij toch het lijstje voor november.

193. No Escape / John Erick Dowdle / 2015 / ***
     In their new overseas home, an American family soon finds themselves caught in the middle of a coup, and they frantically look for a safe escape from an environment where foreigners are being immediately executed.
     Lake Bell en Owen Wilson zijn comedy acteurs, en Pierce Brosnan is een ex-Bond acteur die graag ABBA zingt. John Erick Dowdle maakte het niet meteen desastreuze As Above, So Below, en een paar jaar eerder het wel erg op [REC] gelijkende Quarantine. Niet meteen een veelbelovende cast, maar deze film is veel beter dan die premisse. No Escape is een organische, spannende film, met.. durf ik het te stellen: een ‘realistischer’ benadering dan zijn soortgenoten. Best de moeite van het bekijken waard (drie sterren houdt in dat ik de film nog wel eens zou willen herbekijken).
194. Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation / Christopher McQuarrie / 2015 / **(*)
     Ethan and team take on their most impossible mission yet, eradicating the Syndicate – an International rogue organization as highly skilled as they are, committed to destroying the IMF.
     De gebruikelijke ingrediënten in deze franchise, een beetje te voor de hand liggend misschien. De vierde langspeelfilm van McQuarrie, die tegen 2017 de volgende episode ook mag afleveren.
195. 400 Days / Matt Osterman / 2015 / *
     “400 Days” centers on four astronauts sent on a simulated mission to a distant planet to test the psychological effects of deep space travel. Locked away for 400 days, the crew’s mental state begins to deteriorate when they lose all communication with the outside world. Forced to exit the ship, they discover that this mission may not have been a simulation after all.
     Nope. Psychologische moeilijkdoenerij.
196. The Man from U.N.C.L.E. / Guy Ritchie / 2015 / ***
     In the early 1960s, CIA agent Napoleon Solo and KGB operative Illya Kuryakin participate in a joint mission against a mysterious criminal organization, which is working to proliferate nuclear weapons.
     Bij Napoleon moet ik altijd aan Merlina denken, maar dit geheel terzijde. The Man from U.N.C.L.E. is een lichte, verfrissende en bijna pretentieloze film, die hopelijk niet te snel met een sequel om zeep wordt geholpen.

     When Tony Stark and Bruce Banner try to jump-start a dormant peacekeeping program called Ultron, things go horribly wrong and it’s up to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to stop the villainous Ultron from enacting his terrible plans.
     Wachten, wachten, wachten, tot we mee waren met Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. En het was de moeite waard –toch voor wie mee is met het Marvel universum.
199. No Strings Attached / Ivan Reitman / 2011 / *(*)
     A guy and girl try to keep their relationship strictly physical, but it’s not long before they learn that they want something more.
     Uitgekomen in hetzelfde jaar (maar eerder dan) het thematisch heel erg gelijkende, maar inhoudelijk superieure Friends With Benefits. Natalie Portman is eerder miscast in deze rol –geef haar maar V For Vendetta.
200. Spectre / Sam Mendes

     A cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organization. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE.
     Het is zeker niet de beste Bond, vergeleken met de drie voorgaande, maar toch beslist de moeite waard om te gaan bekijken.

     A young woman becomes trapped in her car after a hitchhiker causes her to have an automobile accident.
     Dit hoort thuis in de categorie ‘waarom niet’, maar bof, voel u niet verplicht. Julianne Hough doet haar best, maar dat blijkt niet helemaal voldoende.
202. Paper Towns / Jake Schreier / 2015 / **
     After an all night adventure, Quentin’s life-long crush, Margo, disappears, leaving behind clues that Quentin and his friends follow on the journey of a lifetime.
     Het meest interessante aan deze film is het concept van de paper towns, en de arrogante kracht van het personage Margo (gespeeld door model & actrice Cara Delevingne). Het is zeker niet het beste boek van John Green; de plot is wat dunnetjes en veel meer ‘young’ dan ‘adult’.
203. Tiger House / Thomas Daley / 2015 / **(*)
     Kelly sneaks into her boyfriend’s house but tonight, she’s not the only unwelcome visitor. As the situation spirals out of control, the suburban house becomes a terrifying arena for violence.
     Tiger House is het langspeelfilm debuut van Tom Daley, en is zeker niet onverdienstelijk. Kaya Scodelario (van The Maze Runner), speelt Kelly, die als wildcard in een home invasion bij haar vriendje, terecht komt. Onterecht onder de vijf sterren gedoken bij IMDB.
204. Landmine Goes Click / Levan Bakhia / 2015 / **
     Trapped standing on an armed landmine, an American tourist is forced to watch helplessly while his girlfriend is terrorized and brutally assaulted.
     Het begint weinig veelbelovend, maar de film bevat een dubbelle, lange introductie voor een weinig goeds voorspellend einde. Wat deze film mist is focus, maar is toch al een stap in de goede richting in vergelijking met het debuut van Bakhia, 247°F.
205. The Salvation / Kristian Levring / 2015 / ***(*)
     In 1870s America, a peaceful American settler kills his family’s murderer which unleashes the fury of a notorious gang leader. His cowardly fellow townspeople then betray him, forcing him to hunt down the outlaws alone.
     Oooh… ik heb iets met westerns, begin ik te denken. Ik vroeger veel van dat soort films gezien, maar het is denk ik decennia geleden dat ik mij nog eens aan het genre heb gewaagd. Sterke vertolkingen van Mads Mikkelsen (en Eva Green).
206. Ant-Man / Peyton Reed / 2015 / **
     Armed with a super-suit with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, cat burglar Scott Lang must embrace his inner hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.
     Honey, I Shrunk The Kids. Laat het ons houden op ontspannend.

     Twenty-four male students out of seventy-five were selected to take on randomly assigned roles of prisoners and guards in a mock prison situated in the basement of the Stanford psychology building.
     Een beetje langdradige uitleg over dat andere grote experiment (na Obedience To Authority), dat totaal uit de hand is gelopen.
208. Me and Earl and the Dying Girl / Alfonso Gomez-Rejon / 2015 / **(*)
     High schooler Greg, who spends most of his time making parodies of classic movies with his co-worker Earl, finds his outlook forever altered after befriending a classmate who has just been diagnosed with cancer.
     Alle truken van de foor worden uitgehaald voor deze dramacom gebaseerd op het gelijknamige boek van Jesse Andrews. Het is eens iets anders dan horror, moet regisseur Alfonso Gomez-Rejon gedacht hebben. Zeer bekijkbaar.
209. Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials / Wes Ball / 2015 / **

     Soms kijkt een mens gewoon omdat hij het eerste deel gezien heeft, en niet graag afhaakt. Ik ben een meeloper, ik.

     Maar allez: zo een twee ondergewaardeerde films. Ze sluiten thematisch en inhoudelijk perfect bij elkaar aan, als de eerste nog wel net iets beter dan de tweede. Zeer de moeite.
