    Pfft. Veel copy-paste.
23. Oldboy / Spike Lee / 2013 / **(*)
    Obsessed with vengeance, a man sets out to find out why he was kidnapped and locked into solitary confinement for twenty years without reason.
    Goed verhaal (gebaseerd op de oorspronkelijk Japanse versie / manga), goed geacteerd, en met Elizabeth Olsen. Ja, dat laatste element is een qualifier.
24. Vice / Brian A Miller / 2015 / 0
    Bruce Willis stars in this Sci-Fi thriller about ultimate resort: VICE, where customers can play out their wildest fantasies with artificial inhabitants who look like humans.
    Bruce Willis was helaas alomtegenwoordig. Ik heb de indruk dat hij beter wat selectiever zou tewerk gaan.

    The special bond that develops between plus-sized inflatable robot Baymax, and prodigy Hiro Hamada, who team up with a group of friends to form a band of high-tech heroes.
    Aanrader voor de ganse familie.

    One couple’s story as they try to reclaim the life and love they once knew and pick up the pieces of a past that may be too far gone.
    We zijn begonnen met The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Them, en hebben vervolgens besloten toch ook de voorafgaande films te bekijken. Eigenlijk hebben we dus drie keer dezelfde film bekeken, eerst zoals een ‘gewone’ film, vervolgens vanuit respectievelijk het standpunt van de man en de vrouw. We hebben ons geen moment verveeld. Een zeer goed gebracht verhaal, met een bijzonder interessante verhaaltechniek –als u de drie versies naast elkaar legt. Heel boeiend.

29. El sexo de los ángeles (Angels of Sex) / Xavier Villaverde / 2012 / *(*)
    The established relationship between university student Bruno and aspiring photographer Carla is thrown into turmoil when Bruno feels drawn to sexy karate instructor/break dancer Rai. Complications ensue.
    Het zal wel aan mij liggen, maar ik dacht dat El sexo de los ángeles niet vertaalt in Angels of Sex. Zelfs Google Language doet het beter dan de op sensatie beluste vertaler. Vergis u niet, er komt welzeker een duchtige portie seks in de film voor, maar er gaat gelijk een pak betekenis verloren door de marketing-vertaling. De film zelf is een beetje saai, en vermoedelijk enkel nog schokerend voor de mensen die mentaal nog in de vorige eeuw leven. Ik heb gekeken omdat Astrid Bergès-Frisbey meespeelde, en ik die nog niet zo lang geleden in I Origins had gezien.
30. The Dreamers / Bernardo Bertolucci / 2003 / ***
    A young American studying in Paris in 1968 strikes up a friendship with a French brother and sister. Set against the background of the ’68 Paris student riots.
    We gaan even associatief tewerk: Michael Pitt speelt mee in deze film, en die speelde ook mee in I Origins; thematisch lagen de films niet zo ver van elkaar af.
    Men had Eva Green gewaarschuwd dat ze met deze rol wel eens hetzelfde pad zou kunnen bewandelen als Maria Schneider, die in 1972 in Bertolucci’s Last Tango in Paris door Marlon Brando werd beboterd. Green liet het niet aan haar hart komen, en we herinneren ons (naast haar bloederige ontmaagding in deze film) voornamelijk de rollen van Versper Lynd in Casino Royale, de verdwenen moeder in White Bird in a Blizzard , en Vanessa Ives in de serie Penny Dreadful. Het mooiste aan deze film is niet zozeer het schampere verhaal, maar de fotografie en het eerbetoon dat Bertolucci maakt aan de cinema. De film zit boordevol, vaak letterlijke, verwijzingen naar de filmgeschiedenis, en is alleen daarvoor al de moeite.

    A family on a ski holiday in the French Alps find themselves staring down an avalanche during lunch one day; in the aftermath, their dynamic has been shaken to its core, with a question mark hanging over their patriarch in particular.
    Pareltje van de maand, deze bevreemdende tranche de vie.
32. Intouchables / Olivier Nakache & Eric Toledano / 2011 / *
    After he becomes a quadriplegic from a paragliding accident, an aristocrat hires a young man from the projects to be his caregiver.
    Ugh. Het was van moeten. Gebaseerd op een waargebeurd verhaal.
33. Animal / Brett Simmons / 2014 / *
    When plans for a weekend vacation hit a dead end, a group of close-knit friends find themselves stranded in unfamiliar territory, pursued by a menacing, blood thirsty predator.
    Opeenstapeling van clichés.
34. VANish / Bryan Bockbrader / 2015 / *
    A kidnapped young woman is forced on a road trip full of murder and mayhem that takes place entirely in her captor’s getaway van.
    Let op de drie hoofdletters in de film, dat, en de aanwezigheid van Danny Trejo, moge u een hint geven over de inhoud.
35. Blutgletscher (Blood Glacier) / Marvin Kren / 2013 / *
    Scientists working in the Austrian Alps discover that a glacier is leaking a liquid that appears to be affecting local wildlife.
    Bijzonder slechte special effects, in deze anders niet helemaal slechte Oostenrijkse horrorfilm.
36. Welp / Jonas Govaerts / 2014 / **
    Over-imaginative 12 year-old Sam heads off to the woods to summer scout camp with his pack convinced he will encounter a monster…and he does.
    Puur uit chauvinisme krijgt deze film twee sterren. Wat het meeste stoort is niet zozeer het scenario dat met haken en ogen aan elkaar hangt, maar vooral de wel bijzonder slechte acteerprestaties, zelfs van Titus De Voogdt. Ik hou ook niet zo van dingen die niet kloppen, zoals het onderbroekje dat van Evelien Bosmans gerukt wordt, en even later op miraculeuze wijze opnieuw aan haar onderlijf kleeft (nee, er was geen mogelijkheid dat ze een vers had aangedaan, of zelfs hetzelfde). En zo zijn er nog een pak. En nee, ik was er niet op belust haar nether regions te zien te krijgen; daar was op dat moment niet echt iets erotiserends aan trouwens –of uw voorkeuren moeten wel erg sterk afwijken van de gangbare.
37. The Canal / Ivan Kavanagh / 2014 / *
    Film archivist David (Rupert Evans) has been having a rough time lately, as he suspects that his wife Alice (Hannah Hoekstra) has been cheating on him with Alex (Carl Shaaban), one of her work clients. This stress is compounded when David’s work partner Claire (Antonia Campbell-Hughes) gives him a reel of to-be-archived footage that shows that his house was the setting for a brutal murder in 1902. Becoming progressively more unsettled and unhinged, David begins to believe that a spectral presence is in his house and ends up following his wife to a nearby canal, where he discovers that she is indeed having an affair with Alex. When Alice goes missing shortly afterwards, David contacts the police- only to become the prime suspect in her disappearance. As the police grow more convinced that David has murdered his wife, he struggles to find proof of his growing suspicion that something otherworldly was instead responsible.
    Veel uitleg, voor het soort film dat maar matig boeiend is. Gelukkig was het met Antonia Campbell-Hughes (van het bizarre Kelly + Victor) en Hannah Hoekstra (Hemel en App).
38. Something Wicked / Darin Scott / 2014 / *
    As a young couple embarks upon their wedding plans, gruesome secrets from their past collide with sinister forces of the present to ensure these newlyweds do not live “happily-ever-after.”
    De laatste (postuum uitgebrachte) film met Brittany Murphy, is helaas niet het eerbetoon dat het had moeten zijn.
39. Tusk / Kevin Smith / 2014 / **
    When podcaster Wallace Bryton goes missing in the backwoods of Manitoba while interviewing a mysterious seafarer named Howard Howe, his best friend Teddy and girlfriend Allison team with an ex-cop to look for him.
    Hilarisch, maar het is er een beetje over –ik kan helaas geen beter eufemisme bedenken.
40. Backcountry / Adam MacDonald / 2014 / **
    An urban couple go camping in the woods and find themselves lost in the territory of a predatory black bear.
    Grrl Power! Lichtvoetige, maar onderhoudende film met weinig inspiratie. Met Missy Peregrym, die u misschien kent van de serie Rookie Blue, net zoals de regisseur trouwens.
41. When Animals Dream / Jonas Alexander Arnby / 2014 / ***(*)
    16-year old Marie lives on a small island with her seriously ill mother and her father, who takes care of the family. But suddenly mysterious deaths happen and Marie can feel something strange happening to her body.
    Een film over weerwolven zonder weerwolven (zie ook: beide versies van Let The Right One In). Ik ben verzot op dergelijke films. Debuut van regisseur Jonas Alexander Arnby, met een zeer mooie acteerprestatie van debutante Sonia Suhl. Als dit voor beiden een debuut is, dan staat er ons nog veel mooi werk van deze mensen te wachten.

    After narrowly escaping an ancient burial ground, a group of friends find themselves trapped between two evils, forcing them to fight, die, or go back the way they came.
    Iets met monsters en gratuit bloot. Voor de fans: er is een vervolg op komst.
43. Girl House / Trevor Matthews / 2014 / **
    A HALLOWEEN-style slasher for the digital age, it follows a beautiful young college student who, needing money for tuition, moves into a house that streams content to an X-rated website. After a deranged fan hacks in to determine the house’s location, she finds herself in a terrifying fight for her life.
    De omschrijving klopt: a slasher for the digital age. Leuk voor de fans van het genre, onderhoudend zelfs met clichés.
44. The Woman in Black / James Watkins / 2012 / *
    A young lawyer travels to a remote village where he discovers the vengeful ghost of a scorned woman is terrorizing the locals.
    De eerste film in het post-Harry Pottertijdperk, was niet meteen een memorabele voor Daniel Radcliffe. Er is een vervolg, maar dat heb ik nog niet gezien.
45. The Atticus Institute / Chris Sparling / 2015 / *
    In the fall of 1976, a small psychology lab in Pennsylvania became the unwitting home to the only government-confirmed case of possession. The U.S. military assumed control of the lab under orders of national security and, soon after, implemented measures aimed at weaponizing the entity. The details of the inexplicable events that occurred are being made public after remaining classified for nearly forty years.
    Been there, done that, got the t-shirt and the eighties want their movies back.
46. The Spectacular Now / James Ponsoldt / 2013 / ***(*)
    A hard-partying high school senior’s philosophy on life changes when he meets the not-so-typical “nice girl.”
    Reeds op het filmfestival gezien, en zeer goed bevonden. Nu eindelijk ook met Tessa bekeken, nadat ik het boek herlezen had. Er zijn grote verschillen met het boek, maar beide interpretaties hebben hun waarde.
47. Isabelle / Ben Sombogaart / 2011 / **
    A famous actress finds herself captured by a morbidly deranged paintress.
    Eigenlijk niet half zo slecht, zelfs al is het naar een roman van Tessa de Loo. Met een weinig aangeklede Halina Reijn, een naïef-obsessieve Wim Opbrouck, en een verbitterde Barbara Sarafian.
48. Let’s Kill Ward’s Wife / Scott Foley / 2014 / **
    Ward’s wife is a bitch. Everyone knows it. Including Ward. After numerous conversations and ruminations on the subject amongst Ward’s colorful group of friends, a fortuitous accident leads to a whole new world of problems and possibilities.
    Hilarisch. Nee, serieus. (En met Amy Acker.)

    The story follows a married couple, apart for a night while the husband takes a business trip with a colleague to whom he’s attracted to. While he’s resisting temptation, his wife encounters her past love.
    Zwaar morele dilemma’s waaruit gemakkelijk de verkeerde conclusies kunnen gemaakt worden.
52. Interstellar / Christopher Nolan / 2014 / **
    A team of explorers travel through a wormhole in an attempt to ensure humanity’s survival.
    Niet mijn favoriete Nolan film, die behoorlijk leentje-buur speelt bij tal van gelijkaardige films.
53. The Riot Club / Lone Scherfig / 2014 / *
    Two first-year students at Oxford University join the infamous Riot Club, where reputations can be made or destroyed over the course of a single evening.
    Belerend filmpje over een pak uit de hand gelopen aristocratische studenten.
54. Martha Marcy May Marlene / Sean Durkin / 2011 / ***(*)
    Haunted by painful memories and increasing paranoia, a damaged woman struggles to re-assimilate with her family after fleeing an abusive cult.
    Langspeelfilm debuut van Durkin met –alweer– een meesterlijke vertolking van Elizabeth Olsen.
55. The Loft / Erik Van Looy / 2014 / *
    Five married guys conspire to secretly share a penthouse loft in the city–a place where they can carry out hidden affairs and indulge in their deepest fantasies. But the fantasy becomes a nightmare when they discover the dead body of an unknown woman in the loft, and they realize one of the group must be involved.
    Eindelijk in de zalen losgelaten… helaas. Slechte acteerprestaties, waarvan de beste vertolking wordt neergezet door de acteur die ik het minste af kan: Matthias Schoenaerts.
56. Los cronocrímenes (Timecrimes) / Nacho Vigalondo / 2008 / ***(*)
    A man accidentally gets into a time machine and travels back in time nearly an hour. Finding himself will be the first of a series of disasters of unforeseeable consequences.
    Een structureel heel erg geslaagde film. Dit is het langspeelfilm debuut van Vigalondo, wiens Open Windows (nochtans met Sasha Grey) ik maar niet kan doorworstelen. Maar deze is een absolute aanrader!
57. Faults / Riley Stearns / 2015 / ***
    Claire is under the grip of a mysterious new cult called Faults. Desperate to be reunited with their daughter, Claire’s parents recruit one of the world’s foremost experts on mind control, Ansel Roth.
    Ik had heel lage verwachtingen voor deze film, maar dat is heel erg positief uitgedraaid. Wie Sound of My Voice interessant vond (steekt zelf hand in de lucht), zal deze film zeker kunnen smaken. Alweer een langspeelfilm debuut.
58. El cuerpo (The Body) / Oriol Paulo / 2012 / **(*)
    A detective searches for the body of a femme fatale which has gone missing from a morgue.
    Deze film moet het van de ontknoping hebben, dus ik ga er verder niets over vertellen. Zeer onderhoudend, dus de moeite van het bekijken waard. Ik herhaal mijzelf: alweer een langspeelfilm debuut.
